Sanyo PLV-Z2 home theater
by: Matthew Krey
"Last May, my wife, son and I moved into our newly built home, and from day one, I had my eyes on one corner of the basement for a home theater room (something I have wanted for many years). Thanks to the current favorable home equity rates, I was able to fulfill my dream. Framing and the search for a projector started on January 5th. My budget and need for a 16:9 aspect ratio quickly eliminated most candidates, and further research and help from Projector People made my choice clear: The Sanyo PLV-Z2.
Four weeks later, the room was done, and it was time for the fun part - installing the screen and projector. The screen is a 92-inch Da-Lite high contrast with Cinema Contour frame. It was a snap to install. As for the projector, I purchased a Chief mounting bracket, but still needed to mount it to the ceiling with something. A quick trip to the local Home Depot, and $4.00 later, I had an 8-inch piece of pipe, a pipe size converter and a pipe floor mount (which works just fine as a ceiling mount). That took care of the physical setup. The centering of the image on the screen was a breeze, thanks to the Z2's lens shift capability - it took only 5 minutes, and no need for keystone correction.
I preran all the wiring before the drywall went up - Monster Video 3 for the projector and Monster XP for the surround speakers. I'm using component inputs from my SONY progressive scan DVD player, but also have DVI for when I add an HDTV satellite receiver later this year. My sound system is run by a SONY 6.1 receiver, and all my speakers are by Infinity. I have no problem achieving theater-level sounds. Overall I am very happy with my purchase and looking forward to hours of viewing enjoyment. So, what are YOU waiting for? Get to your local bank and start enjoying your new home theater!"
